Towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon net zero emissions by 2039 in Jaguar Land Rover’s supply chain, products, and operations, Jaguar Land Rover is requesting that its global supply chain commits to sustainable targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Jaguar Land Rover will request that it’s Tier 1 suppliers create a roadmap for decarbonisation, report honestly, and show progress toward their goals. To achieve the same savings, this would mean opening up their carbon reporting and working with their supplier chain. This requirement has been communicated to the more than 5,000 businesses that make up Jaguar Land Rover’s supply network.
Jaguar Land Rover is undergoing a significant transformation as part of its Reimagine strategy to deliver luxury vehicles that are rich in sustainability. This includes decarbonising every aspect of its value chain, embracing circular economy practices, and switching to entirely electric product lines by the end of the decade.
According to Barbara Bergmeier, Executive Director of Industrial Operations at Jaguar Land Rover, “the driving forces behind Jaguar Land Rover’s industrial strategy are fulfilling our SBTi obligations and attaining carbon net zero emissions across our entire supply chain by 2039. We must work together to accomplish these lofty goals, which is why we are inviting suppliers to embark with us on this difficult but exciting trip. By doing so, we will deepen our current connections and enable all parties to accomplish major, measurable objectives.”
ZKW Group CEO Wilhelm Steger stated: “Our objective is pioneering, premium lighting and electronic solutions for all mobility ideas in the worldwide automobile industry. ZKW Group provides premium lighting systems to Jaguar Land Rover. ZKW is traveling toward a more sustainable future alongside Jaguar Land Rover. Environmental impact reduction and protection are important to us. As a result, we are accepting responsibility for our actions, working to achieve the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) inside our company, and aiming to CO2-neutralize all of our manufacturing locations by the end of 2025.
The cooperation of CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature makes up the SBTi (WWF). One of the commitments made by the We Mean Business Coalition is the SBTi call to action.
By 2030, Jaguar Land Rover plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions across all of its operations by 46%. The corporation will also reduce average vehicle emissions throughout all of its value chains by 54%, including a 60% decrease during the use phase of its vehicles. The objectives confirm the company’s route to a 1.5°C emissions reduction following the Paris Agreement and were accepted by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Jaguar Land Rover’s dedication meets the most challenging objective established in Paris.
