An Undeniable Italian flair, the refreshed Guilia simplicemente bello (simply beautiful in Italian).
The Italian language is definitely in my top 3 favourites and I plan to learn to speak fluently some day. I mean for obvious reasons, its captivating, romantic and sexy. This description is exactly how my week with the Alfa Romeo Guilia Veloce felt like and man did it turn out to be one of the most wholesome couple of days I have ever experienced in my life.
First thing I thought when I first laid my eyes on the Guilia, the word sexy is appropriate. The car is large and aggressive looking, has a muscular feel to it, “bo grootman” if you may and not short of the Italian flair. A Sunday morning drive landed us in between Harties and Rustenburg with the intended destination being Magalies (I am geographically challenged). We saw an authentic looking Italian restaurant called Paganini’s along the way and decided this would be our first stop.. and it so happened to be our last. We received a warm welcome from Mirko Kirty the owner and his lovely family. Mirko had to admit, part of the reason our presence was appreciated was the car. Mirko so happens to be an Italian man that is an Alfa Romeo enthusiast and we made his day. Our Italian themed day was complete with the most delicious pizza I have tasted and discussions around the Alfa Romeo Guilia craftsmanship.
In what Alfa Romeo is calling their cutting edge innovative engines, you can expect power from the 2.0-litre turbocharged all-aluminum engine. Guilia offers a mean 206kW with power transferred to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Alfa has introduced the new Alfalink™ to the rear suspension, a multi-link system with four-and-a-half links: rigid when cornering, but also longitudinally flexible. This coupled with double wishbones on the front suspension with semi-virtual steering, intended to make the suspension angle more controllable and obtain optimal grip on the road.
I am here to tell you, when you step on the Guilia she responds, she doesn’t disappoint. She also drinks her juice. Alfa Romeo’s acclaimed fuel consumption is 8.4l/100km, which I didn’t fully test or record, but I do remember frequent visits to the petrol station, but then again I was quite trigger happy with the Guilia, understandably so.
With comfort beyond your wildest expectations, Guilia has quite the spacious interior, ample head and legroom with all the necessary styling, speaking to the elegant and sportiness overall design language of the car. Front seats boasts the Alfa Romeo emblem on the headrests which bring a touch and feel of royalty to the mix. Connectivity being the key focus of the refreshed Guilia Veloce, an 8.8 inch Screen infotainment system with easy to use smart phone interface had me dancing to Bruno Mars on my playlist and wishing the drive was longer each time I stepped in to this car.
Mirko and I agreed the Alfa Romeo Guilia Veloce guise was a stunning looking car and had us excited about the rest of the range. We also agreed we’d need to sell a reasonable amount of pizzas in order to afford the car and its juice, a worthwhile kind of sacrifice we’d both make to be this stylish.
