Volkswagen sold 58 822 vehicles in the local market between January and November 2022 (VW PC: 54 031, VW CV: 4 791). Volkswagen’s performance in the first 11 months of 2022 was boosted by increasing demand for its T SUV model line.
“When compared to November 2021, we increased passenger car sales in the local market by 10% in November.”
The Volkswagen brand (including Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles) sold a total of 6 006 vehicles in the local market last month (VW PC: 5 540, VW CV: 466), according to Steffen Knapp, head of the Volkswagen Passenger Car Brand.
Volkswagen’s T SUV line-up, which includes the T-Cross, Tiago, T-Roc, Tiguan (including Allspace and R), and Touareg, has remained popular in the local market.
“This year’s market introductions of the new Taigo, new T-Roc, new Tiguan Allspace, and new Tiguan R bolstered the Volkswagen T SUV model range.”
“In the first 11 months of 2022, we sold a total of 16 062 T SUVs in the local market, which means that SUVs accounted for 30% of Volkswagen’s overall passenger car sales this year,”
Knapp added.


T-Cross sales increased by 44% year on year in the first 11 months of 2022, with 9 695 units sold, making it Volkswagen’s best-selling imported vehicle. The Tiguan range sold 2 334 units, followed by the recently launched T-Roc and Taigo, which sold 2 143 and 1 739 units, respectively. During the same period, 151 Touaregs were sold in the local market. The Polo Vivo is Volkswagen’s best-selling model, with 19 445 units sold in the first 11 months of 2022. With 14 212 units sold, the Polo was Volkswagen’s second best-selling vehicle this year. With 9 695 units sold, the T-Cross completed Volkswagen’s best-selling trio.


In the first 11 months of 2022, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 4 791 vehicles to customers. With 1 823 units sold in the first 11 months of 2022, the Amarok double cab was the best-selling model, accounting for nearly 40% of the Brand’s sales. During the same period, the Kariega manufacturing plant exported 94 049 Volkswagen Polos to 38 international countries. In 2023, the Volkswagen brand will introduce the new Golf 8 R in the local market, as well as a refresher of the range-topping Polo Vivo GT derivative. With the market introduction of the highly anticipated new generation Amarok in 2023, 2023 will be a pivotal year for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
