Ask Mabs- Low Mileage Question

Hi Mabs

I want to buy a car with low mileage, but some dealers seem dodgy. How do I verify the real kilometres?

Mabs Answers:
You’re absolutely right to be cautious — odometer tampering is sadly more common than many think. The first thing I’d suggest is asking for a DEKRA certificate. It’s an independent vehicle condition report that verifies mileage, checks for accident damage, and gives you a clear snapshot of the car’s true history. Also, make sure the service book lines up — regular, dated services should show a logical mileage progression. If the car still has a manufacturer or extended warranty, that’s another good sign it’s been properly maintained. Finally, trust your instincts — if something feels off, walk away. There are plenty of good cars and honest dealers out there; you just need to know what to look for!
