ASK MABS- Why New Drivers Should Think Twice About Driving at Night

Hello Mabs

I am heading home to KZN, driving from Gauteng, and the roads are usually packed during this time of year as holidaymakers go to the coast. I’m a new driver and I’m a bit nervous. I have been advised to drive the long-distance at night when there are fewer cars on the road, and avoid holidaymakers.

Mabs Answers:

If you can avoid it, rather don’t drive at night especially as a new driver. Night driving increases fatigue, visibility challenges, and the risk of encountering drunk or reckless drivers. If night travel is unavoidable, plan your route and rest stops, share driving where possible, and keep headlights and windscreen clean. Trust your instincts, if you feel tired, stop. Arriving safely is more important than arriving early.
