Ask Mabs: Should I Trade in My High-Mileage Car Before Problems Start?

Hello Mabs

My car has high mileage but still runs well. I keep reading or hearing stories of people whose vehicles have had major breakdowns, leaving them in debt. Should I trade it in before problems start?

Mabs Answers:

If the car is reliable, fully paid off and still serving you well, there is no rule that says you must replace it. A paid-off car is a beautiful thing. Just stay on top of maintenance. Sometimes we rush into new debt because we are afraid of what might happen. If it is mechanically sound, enjoy the freedom of not having instalments for a while.
