Shadi Montjane (52), a Property Developer from the South of Johannesburg and a self-proclaimed adventurer took a solo trip to Clarens to be one with nature. She says this was an eye-opener and that she looks forward to more solo adventures.
I recently took a midweek, solo trip to celebrate my birthday in Clarence, Free State. I used my holiday points to treat myself to some time out and a bit of reflection.
It was pure pleasure driving there with my music and my thoughts for company. I loved every moment of the trip.
Once I was there, I didn’t want to miss out on any of the activities offered in this tourism heaven. I went hiking alone in the Golden Gate National Park. It was one of the best things I have ever done in years. The sound of nature was awe-inspiring. I kept pushing myself forward and it was amazing.
I truly loved being there alone. I could do whatever I wanted whenever I was in the mood. I didn’t have to convince anyone to join me or wait for them to be in the mood to join. I feel everyone should take a solo trip once in a while especially if they want to clear their heads and lower their stress levels. Clarens was made for that, you can just feel the stress leave you as soon as you drive through the town.
I went for beer tasting and discovered a love for craft beers. It was absolutely refreshing. I also tasted the best cheesecake, it completely melted in my mouth and left me feeling amazing.
I booked my holiday through The Holiday Club, which I’m part of. Their free points are a lifesaver and they seem to come at the right time when my body needs a getaway.
I stayed at Kiara Lodge, it was tranquil and the service spot on. I would definitely return to Clarens on a whim, it is an ideal spot.
