What was your most recent trip and how long were you away for?
I went on a cruise with MSC Cruise from Durban to Cape Town for business and pleasure. It was a five-day journey filled with breathtaking ocean views and exciting adventures.

Who did you travel with?
We were a group of Content Creators, travelling with representatives from South African Tourism.
What was your favorite part about your holiday?
I was drawn to the allure of cruising along the South African coastline, with its stunning landscapes and diverse cultural experiences. Plus, the opportunity to visit both Durban and Cape Town in one trip was too enticing to pass up.

Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
I would definitely have an itinerary. Most of the time I didn’t know what to do because the ship was massive and I ended up walking around. I was amazed by its beauty.

What touristy things did you get up to and what was the overall experience?
During the cruise, I enjoyed various onboard activities such as attending live entertainment shows, sampling exquisite cuisine at the ship’s restaurants, and lounging by the poolside while sipping virgin cocktails. There are also onboard amenities like the spa and fitness center. Overall, the experience was incredibly enjoyable, offering a perfect balance of relaxation and excitement amidst the stunning backdrop of the ocean.
What was the best thing you ate on your trip and what did you splurge on?
While the overall experience on the cruise ship was enjoyable, one aspect that could be further enhanced is the food offerings. I found that the food experience fell short of expectations despite the variety of available options. However, I appreciated the efforts of the food experts onboard in catering to the diverse tastes of passengers. With some fine-tuning and perhaps a focus on quality over quantity, there is room for improvement and the dining experience can be elevated for all guests.
Would you advise someone to go and if so, what should they do differently to you?
I would do it again. Next time, I’d opt for a cruise that includes island stops rather than spending four consecutive days on the ship. It’s a great way to experience different destinations and break up the journey. One thing I would do differently is to ensure I have motion sickness medication at all times to fully enjoy the trip without any discomfort.

What websites or services did you find the most helpful for planning/booking your trip?
For planning and booking my trip, I found websites like Expedia, TripAdvisor, and the official MSC Cruises website helpful. They provided comprehensive information about cruise itineraries, onboard amenities, and reviews from fellow travelers. They helped me make informed decisions about my journey.

What advice would you give someone going there for the first time?
I recommend taking the time to research each port of call beforehand to make the most of your experience. Whether Xploring the vibrant markets of Durban or taking a cable car ride up Table Mountain in Cape Town, having a game plan can help ensure you don’t miss out on any must-see attractions.
