Mabuyane’s journalism career started in the newsroom of the Pretoria News, well over twenty years ago.

Before long, she secured her first real job at The Citizen newspaper. This was the start of what was to be a beautiful foundation that led to an illustrious career in the media space.

She is the former editor of Sowetan motoring and founding editor of MotorMania (now Ignition Live).

She has contributed to many publications including Forbes Woman Africa before bidding farewell to print for the world of broadcast which she entered in 2015. A journey she enjoyed before Covid put brakes to it. Some of the radio stations Mabs has graced its airwaves including Metro FM, Motsweding FM and Lesedi FM.

While busy with the radio slots, Mabuyane was also busy in the background setting up this site. XploreZA was an idea that was born many years before while she was still at print.

Mabs love for cars and travelling compelled her to act. She wanted to create a publication that would appeal to ordinary people in their everyday kind of life without overwhelming them with figures of top speeds and sprints. Thus, XploreZA was born.

It’s been a long time in the making. After years of trying to get it right and a few pitfalls, XploreZA has now been reborn and it can only get stronger.

One cannot mention Mabs without pointing out the role she played and still playing in mentoring other black people. She prides herself in landing a helping hand to the young aspiring motoring journalists by grooming and guiding them.

Mabs serves as an Honorary Secretary of the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists(SAGMJ). She is also a regular juror of the SA Car of the Year competition.

Apart from the publisher of XploreZA, Mabs is also full-time grain and livestock farmer. She says her love for cars still burns but she is more in love with bakkies than ever before.
