Mpumalanga seems to be calling my name so often that I think it only makes sense to start considering a second home in that area. We were summoned once again to the lush hills and breathtaking vistas of Graskop, where the Angels View Hotel stands as a beacon of luxury and tranquility. Offering a perfect blend of opulence and natural beauty, this hidden gem promises an unforgettable escape for discerning travellers seeking solace amidst nature’s splendour.
Embarking on a journey from Johannesburg to Angels View Hotel is not just a simple drive; it’s an immersive experience that unveils the diverse landscapes and vibrant culture of South Africa. Please remember how crazy the twists and turns can be on that incredible mountainous range, and what better way to embark on this adventure than in the sleek and stylish new Mini Countryman, offering both comfort and performance for the road ahead. Check out my review of the new Countryman if amazing cars also tickle your fancy. (xploreza.co.za/unveiling-the-new-mini-countryman-a-journey-of-style-and-performance)
As you depart from Johannesburg, the bustling cityscape gradually gives way to rolling hills and vast expanses of golden savannah. The journey unfolds like a tapestry of colours, with each mile revealing a new facet of South Africa’s natural beauty. Listen to me sounding like I don’t visit this amazing province at least once a month.
The route to Graskop takes you along the famed Panorama Route, renowned for its panoramic views and awe-inspiring scenery. Be prepared to be mesmerized by iconic landmarks such as the Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes each offering a glimpse into the majesty of nature. En route, you’ll pass through charming towns like Hazyview and Sabie, where you can take a break and savour local delicacies or explore quaint boutiques offering handcrafted souvenirs.
After a journey of awe and wonder, you’ll arrive at Angelsview Hotel, where luxury meets serenity in perfect harmony. Nestled amidst towering forests and overlooking the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, the hotel welcomes you with open arms, promising a stay that transcends ordinary hospitality. It’s winter, so I strongly recommend a warm jacket as part of your suitcase items.
The Angels View Hotel boasts a range of luxurious accommodations, from elegantly appointed rooms to spacious suites, each exuding warmth and comfort. Wake up to panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, and unwind in style amidst plush furnishings and modern amenities. I was offered the splendid Mikateko Suite, with a fully-specked bathroom, and a TUB. You already know the drill. Hahahahhahaha!
As with any trip I take, I always try to sneak in a small spa visit, especially considering how tiring traveling on the road can be. I was lucky to rejuvenate my mind, body, and soul at the hotel’s spa, with a range of holistic treatments. From soothing massages to revitalizing facials, it felt great to immerse myself in a world of relaxation and rejuvenation amidst the tranquil surroundings of Angel View. The spa seems a little new for now, but the team on site did a fantastic job.
In a world where time seems to stand still, Angels View Hotel offers a sanctuary of peace and tranquillity amidst the splendour of Graskop. From the scenic journey through the Panorama Route to the unparalleled luxury of the hotel itself, every moment spent here is a testament to the beauty of nature and the art of hospitality. So, pack your bags, hit the road in the Mini Countryman, or any vehicle of your choice, and embark on an adventure that will leave you spellbound at Angels View Hotel.
