Hello Mabs
I am in the market for a car and my budget is really tight. However, safety and security are very important to me. I want to know, with all the fancy tech and innovations in modern vehicles, what are the most underrated safety features that every driver should pay more attention to?

The antilock braking system (ABS) is one of the most underrated safety features in a car. Most modern cars have it, sometimes with electronic stability programs (ESP). The job of ABS prevents the wheels from locking and slipping when you apply brakes. This ensures that the car is sturdy and you maintain steering control, particularly in instances when you are applying emergency brakes. In cars that do not have ABS, the wheels get locked up during sudden braking increasing the chances of being in an accident.
The ESP stabilizes the vehicle in critical situations by applying braking forces to the appropriate wheels. When the stability control programme detects a loss of steering control, it automatically applies individual brakes to help ‘steer’ the vehicle where the driver intended it to go. When these features are paired together, they work like magic when you need them the most. Most motorists do not even know they have these until the day they need them. My advice is that when looking for a vehicle, ensure that it has these features. You never know when you will need them. All the very best with shopping for a car.
