Daimler AG, parent company to Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) announces the establishment of an IT Hub at its Plant in East London. The IT Hub will focus on Data analytics, software development and business analysts in collaboration with central IT MBC Operations in providing IT solutions supporting global Daimler production, supply chain and maintenance systems.
The digitization strategy pursued at Daimler offers new innovation opportunities for enhancing efficiencies, customer benefits and enterprise value. As a company, MBSA will continue to support the socio-economic development of the region through our manufacturing operations alongside the establishment of new job opportunities, new skills and competencies brought about by the changes in technology and mobility through the IT Hub.
Over the years, the East London Plant has served as a benchmark for quality, innovation and technology for Daimler Plants across the world. A true ‘Out of Africa, for the World’ is our drive. The new IT Hub is one of three within the IT Mercedes-Benz Car operations, which will work closely with the different Centre of Competence (COC) divisions in Germany to provide system solutions for manufacturing operations in production, supply chain and maintenance services to support the entire global Daimler network. The other two IT Hubs are responsible for IT Engineering and Quality solutions and based in India and Spain, respectively.

A two-phased recruitment approach for the MBSA IT Hub will result in the employment of 90 people over a period of two years and will consist of a mix of graduate and professional skills.

The establishment of the MBSA IT Hub builds on a recent string of successes and milestones at the MBSA East Plant. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz South Africa announced the investment of 600 Million Euro (R10 billion) towards the expansion of East London Plant for the production of the new generation C-Class.
