South Africa, even with all its problems, is a land of endless beauty. How wonderful it is to call this melting pot of cultures home!
Not only are we passionate about our rugby champions, the beautiful Springboks, but we also love our automobiles. It is safe to say, South Africa has a deep car culture. From golden oldies to sports cars that zoom into the sunset, we have it all. When Lexus South Africa extended an invitation for me to join them for a women’s getaway in the Cape, I obliged.
We landed in Cape Town early on the morning of our adventure. We were shuttled to Vergenoegd Low, a property that has a rich history dating back to 1696, for breakfast and formalities. This, however, was not our final destination. We were heading out to Stellenbosch, where we would spend most of the day and overnight.
Driving there
Lexus brought their finest fleet to impress us, and we were spoilt for choice. Driving luxury machines never gets tired. When I learned that we were headed to Lanzerac Wine Estate, I got quite excited. I am no stranger to this wine estate. Yet, every time I get a chance to go, it feels like my first time. Now, let’s address the road conditions and travel time from Cape Town Airport to Lanzerac Wine Estate. The journey from the airport to the estate takes approximately an hour, covering a distance of 46 kilometres. The road conditions are generally good, with well-maintained highways and scenic routes that showcase the natural beauty of the region. Thanks to the breathtaking landscapes of Stellenbosch and the Western Cape, one never gets bored driving there.
The scene
Beneath the beautifully formed mountain ranges lies the enchanting Lanzerac Wine Estate. A true gem for wine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. This picturesque winery offers an unforgettable experience that captures the heart and soul of the region. As you approach Lanzerac, a sense of tranquillity washes over you, as the gorgeous vineyards stretch out before your eyes like a patchwork quilt. The estate is renowned for its dedication to producing exceptional, handcrafted wines that showcase the unique terroir of the area. From delicate Chardonnays to robust Cabernet Sauvignons, every sip tells a story of passion and expertise. But Lanzerac Wine Estate is not just about tantalising your taste buds. It’s about immersing yourself in an extraordinary journey of discovery. As you drive into the property along the elongated driveway, you are greeted by the Cape Dutch-style buildings that assure you that you have entered a place of peace.
Take a leisurely stroll through the vineyards, where the melodic sound of birdsong mingles with the rustling leaves. Explore the wine cellar, where the secrets of winemaking are carefully guarded, and witness the artistry that goes into each bottle. My favourite place at this property is the spa. I can never say no to any spa treatments, let alone the spa at Lanzerac.
And as the sun sets, indulge in a wine-tasting experience that will awaken your senses and leave you yearning for more. As you embark on your adventure, you are treated to breathtaking views of mountains, vineyards, and charming towns along the way. So, whether you’re a wine enthusiast, an explorer of natural beauty, or a history enthusiast, Lanzerac Wine Estate and its surrounding attractions offer an alluring blend of experiences to captivate your senses and create lifelong memories.
