There are certain letters of the alphabet that give us goosebumps when we see/hear them associated with cars right? I mean the likes of M, R, GT, and AMG? These may mean nothing to an ordinary person but you petrol heads out there know exactly what I am talking about. They mean more power, more fire, comfort, luxury and more money I suppose. Put an AMG or parts of its package next to an ordinary Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 for example and see how the dress up makes the model turn into a super model.
The CLA 200 in the AMG packaging comes with a number of cool features, the model I had on test’s first noticeable feature is the matte grey colour. What a sexy looking exterior this was. This is the kind of car that gets noticed from afar, a solid statement maker. I got the attention of the kids, the adults and potential husbaes out there. Everywhere I drove was a pleasure to watch the appreciation given to the CLA. The model packs an engine powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder petrol that emits 120 satisfying kW and 250 Nm of torque. Understandably giving you the option to prance around in different driving modes. The Eco driving mode needs to be praised on the fuel consumption, I found it be efficient. There is also Comfort mode and the very popular (with me) Sport mode. Let’s just say a usually seemingly long trip from Krugersdorp to Pretoria got shorten quite a bit [Note while sticking to the speed limit!]
Interior vavavoom
Let’s be frank in that the Germans know the meaning of quality and refinement first. No visible plastics in sight, the seats were my favourite. The front bucket seats spot a touch of fiery red that cannot be ignored. You know I am a sucker for seat warmers right? No disappointments there. The seats are power adjustable right by the door panel where you can choose to heat or cool your bums (the joy in my heart).
Still on the fun bits about the CLA 200 interior, we had fun with the ambient lighting, with the option of 64 colours you get to pick the colour that best suits your mood when driving at night.
Easy connectivity to your phone and if that doesn’t work out (because we are not all technologically savvy) you can always resort to “Hey Mercedes” and the seductive voice of “Becky” (not her real name) will help you out where necessary.
Elegance with a touch of cool. You still maintain the respect and class usually associated with the brand but with a hint of sexy thanks to the matte grey. You have agility, you have comfort and spare a few cents when you drive around decently in Eco mode, a gift that keeps on giving in the premium sedan world.
