Do you know how easy it easy to drive at certain places at any given time without appreciating the beauty of the place. I imagine that Franschhoek is to Cape Town residents, just a road that goes through the pass. This hit me during my recent travel to Limpopo. For the first time that I have taken a pause and took it the natural wonder which is Magoebaskloof. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful parts of our South Africa, Magoebaskloof had become to me, for many years, just a road I had to drive to get to my destination. However, my recent trip home to Giyani was rather different and pleasant, thanks to the company of the new Nissan Micra. I had the pleasure of attending the launch a few months ago, but this time I had the pleasure of enjoying the Micra for what it is. The Micra is not pretentious, it does not pretend to be one of the massive beasts we see roaring through the highways but rather a practical every day car for everyday people. For what is supposed to be a small car, the Micra is much more. It handles well, feels like a bigger car. In fact, sitting in this car throughout the journey felt right. Back to Magoebaskloof, the Micra did its beat, thanks to all the modern active safety features such as Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). I sat back and relaxed as the Micra comfortably tackled the pass with utmost ease and poise. The Nissan dynamite is well equipped with tech, mostly operated from the steering controls with functions such as media and telephone buttons connected via Bluetooth. The media has full functionality of Apple products where one can access messages and emails on the display screen while on the go. Driven by a 0.9-litre turbo engine, you would mistakenly think you are driving a bigger capacity engine.
The turbo is a gift and did not let me down when driving through Gauteng traffic as it allowed a good take off and manoeuvring through traffic.
The Micra can even be suitable for people who enjoy their own company and space surrounded only by connectivity, it is also suitable for young mom and dad with kids who enjoy driving and appreciating the beauty of the country. The 300 litres of boot space is enough for luggage for the whole family.
