How do you feel about Coupés? Well, I think they are a little inconvenient. I mean getting out of the car to push a seat forward to let someone out from the back.. It’s just testing really, even more so with kids. Imagine a road trip with the kids, you know they always want to stop for potty breaks, how tired would you be by the time you reach your destination? But that’s why these Coupés aren’t designed or made with people like me in mind right?
The new Audi A5 and S5 range launched earlier this year, Sportback, Coupé and Cabriolet body styles. Driving the new Audi A5 Coupé for a couple of days was quite the experience. One gentleman was kind enough to let me know that these type of cars are for “di grootman” as he boldly put it. I must say, I get it. I wasn’t offended at all. I am going to turn away from complaining about how inconvenient this car was for a second and focus on what made me conclude that I would actually buy it if the Lotto Gods agreed.
The drive.
What an engaging machine the A5 Coupé 40 TFSI S-line, it handles like a dream. The 2.0-litre TFSI engine offers a sportier and performance led drive. It also counts that you are seated in a perfect position and feels grounded. As low as it feels going in and out of the car, the suspension is surprisingly solid when driving, and you don’t have to maneuver around speed humps so you don’t hit them with the front bumper.
The looks.
Gorgeous is the word to describe it, the S line models have front sills with aluminum inserts illuminated with the S lettering, S line emblem on the front fenders, widened side skirts in body colour finish and as mentioned earlier Sports suspension. The 18-inch cast aluminum wheels also contribute towards the gorgeousness.
Listen! The four rings have really gone out of their way to make a two-door car comfortable and convenient. The seats for instance, you are able to press a button and the front seats magically go back and forth, no manual labour required. The only snag here is that if there are two tall people in the front, there will be no room left for anyone in the rear seats. But, not here to complain about inconvenience remember? My test unit had other interior features that I loved, the heated seats are very important in this weather, the large MMI touch display of course caters for your connectivity needs and is user friendly. The myAudi app (downloadable from app stores) is an additional standard feature as part of the Audi connect portfolio, which connects the Audi A5 with the Customer’s smartphone.
What made this Audi A5 Coupe standout was the colour. I have never before had so many people ask the question “What colour is this?” while having a car on test. Audi is cooking up cool colours lately, you have 12 choices to be exact and this new shade of what Audi is calling district green but you and I can describe it as military/olive green, now that turned many heads during my grootman reign. Even if this car wasn’t extraordinary the colour definitely put it in that category, simply spectacular. In fact I am going to say all Audi models should only be available in this colour, there.. I said it!
So if you have a Compact SUV that’s fuel efficient and works for your family needs all week long, consider a weekend grootman car that definitely has style, tech, comfort and a little bit of inconvenience (but leave the kids behind when using this one folks)… in THIS GREEN!
