Dosa Hut in Fourways: A Curry Lover’s Delight

By Prashirwin Naidu

Ever wondered where to find the ultimate curry experience, a meal that leaves you craving more without breaking the bank? Let me introduce you to Dosa Hut, a hidden gem in the bustling Fourways area, perfect for lovers of bold flavours and hearty portions.

Dosa Hut isn’t just about the food; it’s about the experience. The warm ambience
and friendly service make it a place where you can gather with friends or enjoy a
quiet meal solo. Whether you’re there for a classic curry, a crispy dosa, or the
legendary bunny chow, you’re in for a treat.

Before my vegan days, I indulged in some of the finest curries South Africa had to
offer. I was always on the hunt for a dish that struck the perfect balance between spice, flavour, and affordability. Dosa Hut delivers on all fronts, with a menu catering to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike.

Dosa Hut’s Butter Chicken Curry and buttery naan – a match made in flavor heaven!

The butter chicken curry is one of their standout dishes. Rich, creamy, and perfectly
spiced, it’s the kind of meal that lingers in your memory. Another highlight is their
flame-grilled tandoori chicken, a masterpiece of Indian culinary tradition. The meat is marinated in an aromatic blend of spices and yoghurt, then cooked in a traditional
tandoor oven. The result? Tender, smoky perfection that dances on your taste buds.
And then there’s the butter naan bread. Oh, the butter naan! Soft, flaky and indulgent, it’s the perfect partner to any curry. Whether you’re scooping up the last bit of sauce or enjoying it on its own, it’s a treat that never disappoints.

Dosa Hut offers something for everyone, with a menu that satisfies both meat lovers and vegetarians.

Dosa Hut, however, isn’t your typical Indian restaurant. They go beyond the classics, offering a wide range of dishes that reflect the diverse regional cuisines of India. Their menu features options like dosas (South Indian-style savoury pancakes), biryanis, and Indo-Chinese fusion dishes – a nod to India’s culinary evolution over the centuries. While some of the names might be a mouthful to pronounce, each dish is an adventure worth tackling head on.

As someone who recently transitioned to a vegan lifestyle, I was delighted to discover their flavourful bean bunny chow. Bunny chow, a uniquely South African
dish with Indian roots, originated in Durban during the apartheid era as a convenient way for Indian labourers to carry their meals. At Dosa Hut, their vegan-friendly version is a massive, satisfying portion of spicy bean curry served inside a hollowed- out loaf of bread. For just R100, you also get an extra bowl of beans curry, doubling as a flavourful gravy. It’s filling, delicious, and worth every cent.

Reflecting on my pre-vegan days, I recall their meat-based bunnies as being
flavourful, though lacking a bit of spice. Thankfully, their vegan bean bunny hits the sweet spot – it’s rich, bold and leaves you craving more.

So, if you’re in Fourways and looking for a culinary journey that won’t break the bank, Dosa Hut is a must-visit. Vegan or not, you’re bound to find something that satisfies your cravings and keeps you coming back for more.
