ASK MABS-Can You Service Your Car Outside the Dealership Without Voiding the Warranty?

Hello Mabs

I have had my car for four years and it is nearing the end of the warranty. Is it really necessary to service my car at the dealership to keep my warranty valid?

Mabs Answer:

Short answer, not always. Longer answer, you must follow the manufacturer’s service schedule and use an accredited service provider with approved parts. Keep every invoice and record neatly filed away. If something goes wrong, paperwork becomes your best friend. I always tell people, do not gamble with warranties. They are there to protect you, especially when repairs become expensive.
