ASK MABS: First Long Drive With a Baby? Here’s How to Keep Them Safe and Cool

Hello Mabs

We will be travelling a long distance with our 5-month-old for the first time. How do we keep the baby safe and cool in the car?

Mabs Answers:

Start with a properly installed, rear-facing baby seat, that is non-negotiable. The safest place is in the back seat, and the parent should sit next to the little one to monitor comfort. Keep the cabin cool with the air-con or slightly open windows, but don’t blow cold air directly on the baby. Plan regular rest stops for feeds, cuddles, and nappy changes, no baby should be strapped in for hours without a break. Dress the baby lightly and use a window shade to block harsh sunlight. With calm planning and teamwork, your little Xplorer will be just fine.
