Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Magaliesburg region, surrounded by rolling hills and lush countryside, stands the magnificent Mount Grace Hotel. A haven of tranquillity and elegance, this historic establishment offers a truly unique experience, combining the richness of its past with the beauty of its surroundings.

One of the notable features of Mount Grace Hotel is its proximity to the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage site that preserves the history of human evolution. Just a short distance from the hotel, guests can delve into the mysteries of the past, exploring ancient caves and marvelling at fossils that reveal the story of our ancestors. This connection to one of humanity’s greatest stories lends an air of fascination and awe to the area, making it a perfect destination for history enthusiasts and curious minds.
Magaliesburg and its surroundings boast a myriad of activities that cater to a wide range of interests. Outdoor enthusiasts can embark on thrilling adventures like horseback riding through the scenic landscapes, hiking along meandering trails, or even hot air balloon rides that offer a breathtaking view of the entire region. Adrenaline junkies can satisfy their cravings by partaking in activities such as zip-lining, abseiling, and river rafting in the nearby Magalies River.

Confession, I had no desire to do any of the above, all I wanted to do was do as little as possible. Went about town for a rather brave walk about town, which I won’t recommend to anyone who isn’t kasi product.
For those seeking serenity and relaxation, Mount Grace Hotel’s own spa offers a sanctuary where weary souls can rejuvenate amidst nature’s embrace. Surrounded by manicured gardens and tranquil views, guests can indulge in soothing massages, rejuvenating facials, and a range of wellness treatments that invigorate both mind and body.
The hotel itself is a testament to its rich history, as it dates back to the late 1800s when it was initially established as a farmhouse. Over the years, it has transformed into a luxurious retreat without losing its authentic charm. The architecture seamlessly blends modern comforts with classic undertones, exuding an elegant ambiance throughout. Stepping into its welcoming embrace feels like traveling back in time, where stories of the past intertwine with the present and create a magical experience for every guest.

Having driven just 50 minutes from my home, I arrived in the afternoon to the singing birds that have come to define this majestic joint atop the hill.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly staff waiting at the front reception entrance to whisk guests away in golf carts. There is no shortage of beauty within the property’s expansive grounds, lush gardens, and glistening ponds where guests are treated to the endless haven. The soothing melodies of birdsong, the scent of blooming flowers, and the whisper of the wind through the trees create an idyllic atmosphere that invites serenity and peace. Be it a leisurely stroll through the gardens or simply basking in the sun by the pool, there are countless opportunities to immerse oneself in the beauty of nature at Mount Grace Hotel.
As dusk descends, the hotel’s warm glow-tinted lights lend an enchanting ambiance to the elegant dining options. With a gourmet menu that takes advantage of the area’s abundant seasonal produce, guests can indulge in a culinary journey that reflects the richness and flavour of the region. Savouring each bite, accompanied by a fine selection of wines, completes the experience, creating memorable moments that linger long after the meal has ended.

My room was a standard one without bells and whistles but still delivered the quiet I so longed for.
Mount Grace Hotel in Magaliesburg, with its gateway to the Cradle of Humankind, its plethora of activities, its breathtaking natural surroundings, and its blend of historical charm and modern luxury, offers a captivating stay for every traveller. It is a place where the awe of history meets the allure of nature, providing a unique and unforgettable experience that leaves visitors with a sense of wonder and a yearning to return.
As they say there is no such thing as a perfect setting, there were a few things that were an irritation that I thought management should pay attention to.
The room service staff were quite lax, even though food arrived on time, they brought the food without the cutlery and wine glasses. It still took them 30 minutes after I had call to bring the cutlery.

That was disappointing but I had to remember that the other services were better than that one.
A standard room with king size bed for two nights and two adults costs just over R6000 which includes breakfast. Of course, you will have to budget for the extra costs you will incur during your stay such as lunch, dinner, and spa. Realistically, a good R10 000 will give you a good weekend at Mount Grace.
