There is no doubt that OMODA intends to kick the luxury car market down, and their strategy is taking shape. As part of beefing up its offering, the Chery-owned brand has added a plug-in hybrid to the model lineup to attract those customers who might have been looking for a new home to spend their dime.
As plug-in hybrids start to gain momentum, OMODA does not want to lag behind. With the launch of the new C9 PHEV, the manufacturer is hoping to expand its offering thus attracting more customers.
So, how does the new C9 PHEV look?
It makes a striking first impression with its blend of modern aesthetics and innovative features, positioning itself as a compelling option in the hybrid SUV segment. Its sleek, contemporary design is characterised by sharp lines, a bold grille, and LED lighting elements that give it a dynamic road presence. Inside, the cabin offers a premium feel with high-quality materials, an intuitive infotainment system, and ample space for passengers and cargo.

Engine
One of the standout features of the C9 PHEV is its impressive battery life. Compared to its competitors, at least on paper, it boasts a competitive electric-only range that could appeal to urban drivers seeking efficiency and reduced emissions.
While exact figures vary, the C9 PHEV’s battery performance generally outshines some rivals in its class, thanks to its advanced lithium-ion pack and energy management system, making it a practical choice for daily commuting and longer trips alike.

Since it entered the South African market, OMODA has been steadily gaining traction, attracting a new generation of drivers with its fresh approach and value-driven offerings.
The brand’s focus on blending affordability with modern tech has resonated well, though it still has room to expand its market share as it builds its reputation for reliability and after-sales support.
The C9 PHEV delivers a balanced drive with responsive handling, supported by a hybrid powertrain that provides smooth transitions between electric and petrol modes.
Tech savvy
For those who live for their music, the folk at OMODA had you in mind as the C9 PHEV comes equipped with a 12-speaker Sony Sound System that provides a crisp and clear listening experience.
In the connectivity department, as it has become the norm in modern vehicles, the C9 PHEV is also equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, along with which can be paired to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as standard, as well as a 50W wireless charging pad for mobile devices.

Upon entering the cabin, you are greeted by a dual 12.3-inch digital display, giving
the interior a home-like feel. The centre control screen operates the audio and other vehicle controls, while the Driver Cluster Screen displays necessary and relevant information.
As if that is not enough, the C9 PHEV is equipped with the intuitive Intelligent Voice Command system, which helps the driver to issue instructions without taking their hands off the wheel. All the driver has to say is “Hello, OMODA,” and the vehicle can carry out tasks based on voice commands.

“The C9 PHEV signals OMODA’s readiness to compete in the electrified premium
SUV space, with a vehicle that delivers on what today’s drivers value most: electric
capability, long-range usability, and luxury features that feel a class or two above,” said the company’s Shannon Gaghan.
Pricing and Battery life
The new C9 PHEV is priced at R999 000. To add the sweetener to the deal OMODA has added a seven-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year/200,000 km warranty for certain electric drive unit components, a 10-year/1 million km engine warranty, and a new industry-leading 10-year/unlimited km power battery pack warranty (for the first owner, reverting to 10 years/200,000 km for subsequent owners). Buyers also receive seven years of roadside assistance,
