Earlier this year, we were thrilled to be invited to the introduction of the all-new BMW X2.The launch provided us with a tantalising glimpse of the second generation, leaving us eagerly anticipating an in-depth test session with this impressive vehicle. Months later, the car Gods smiled upon me! I was able to spend an entire week with the sleek and powerful X2 sDrive 18i.
Exterior
The second generation X2 stands out for its remarkable aesthetics. It draws attention with envious looks and quiet applause as you drive by, which is quite gratifying. This Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) is aimed at the premium compact segment, presenting a new challenge for its competitors. The X2’s unique and sporty design ensures an unmatched road presence, leaving a lasting impression on onlookers. BMW customers are spoilt for choice with two solid and eleven metallic paint finishes for the exterior. I am particularly obsessed with the blue on our test unit.
Interior
The one thing that bothered me during our first interaction, and I’m sure would bother any mom, is the white leather interior. As it turns out, the leather interior is not only luxurious but also practical for families. It’s easy to clean, which is crucial when dealing with spills and messes. The Harman Kardon sound system elevates the driving experience, providing high-quality audio for your favourite Master KG jam. Additionally, the technology integrated into the X2 sDrive 18i, such as the intuitive infotainment system and advanced driver-assist features, enhances the overall driving experience and adds convenience and safety to every drive.
Driving Experience
The X2 sDrive18i provides a smooth and responsive driving experience thanks to the 2.0- litre four-cylinder engine. Its performance is impressive, balancing sporty handling with comfortable cruising. One downside is the sloping roofline, which may initially obstruct the rearview mirror view. However, after a brief adjustment period, this becomes less of a concern. Once again, BMW delivers the driving pleasure they always promise with each offering.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the BMW X2 sDrive18i is a versatile and stylish vehicle that caters well to the needs of an individual or family. Its spacious interior, practical features, and enjoyable driving experience make it a strong contender in the luxury compact SUV market. Despite the initial challenge with the rearview mirror, the benefits far outweigh this minor inconvenience. If you’re looking for a family-friendly vehicle with a touch of luxury and performance, the X2 sDrive18i is definitely worth considering.
