Motlatsi Kekana caught up with Sdeni Molala to chat about what makes his car unique.
Meet Dennis, affectionately known as “Sdeni”, a young trailblazer hailing from Zebediela in Limpopo.
Sdeni is part of a movement called “The Conversation with Sdeni & Kamo” that is a hit on social media platforms including YouTube. The online show aims to showcase the culture of Zebediela, discussing important issues among the youth in Zebediela. The guests get to hang out with Sdeni and his lovely co-host Kamo while engaging in different subject matters in a car. I got a chance to sit down to have a chat with Sdeni about him and his car.
What car do you drive?
A Ford Focus 1.6 litre , 2014 Model. It’s got electric windows (laughs) throwing shade at my Ford Figo
Why a ford, any particular reason?
Well, my first car was a Ford Figo, it chowed a lot of petrol. I needed a change so I went to the dealership and there it was. I saw it and I liked it. I spent about 3-4 hours at the dealership negotiating a good deal and I got one.
Speaking of good deals, what advice would you give to first time buyers?
They should shop around the way they do clothes. Go from one dealership to another. They also need to understand all the financial jargon. It is very easy to get excited and not even pay attention to what a balloon payment is for example. If you are going to be stuck with this car 5-6 years, you should really be happy with what you get.
Why did you choose a sedan?
I wanted to be addressed accordingly (laughs)
No but seriously, if I had gotten a good deal on any other car as long as it was bigger than the Figo I would have taken it.
What have you done to customize the car to suit your personality?
Nothing. It has a #STOMS sticker, but nothing else. Its clean, I don’t like to put things on my car.
Tell me about “The Conversation” why in the car?
I have always been a fan of the breakfast club, I used to download the video clips and always thought that it would be great to create something like that. But I didn’t have a studio, no access to people, and no sound equipment. So I thought my car is the perfect place to try this and see if it works and it did.
we can meet our guests anywhere, it’s mobile. We don’t spend money except for petrol.
What would you highlight about snapping and driving?
Firstly, don’t do anything that is unsafe on the road. Secondly, all our interviews are in an immobile car because it would be unsafe for us and other drivers.
Anyway the interviews would not be of proper quality because of the noise of the moving car.
What is next for you? What is Sdeni’s next car?
A Lamborghini or Porsche!! Come on now!
Have you ever been stuck/stranded with your car?
No I haven’t. I have been blessed. I have had a flat tyre, nothing serious.
What is the wildest thing to have happened in your car?
You would have to access “The Conversation” behind the scenes footage (laughs out loud)
Maybe not wild but I have been to Lesotho and Swaziland with my car.
Be sure to look out for Sdeni on social media, subscribe to “The Conversation with Sdeni & Kamo” on YouTube. A go-getter, innovator and all round nice guy, we are inspired.
