Even the gloomiest of days in Pretoria couldn’t dampen the excitement around the launch of the second-generation BMW X2. The sleek X2 sDrive18i and the X2 M35i xDrive came out to steal the show, flaunting their petrol-powered prowess with a three-cylinder and four-cylinder engine respectively. Because, let’s be honest, when has BMW ever unveiled an X model that wasn’t an absolute winner?
Design
First things first, let’s talk looks. The X2 is like the James Bond of SUVs – effortlessly suave with a hint of mischief. Its sloping roofline gives it that sporty edge, while the iconic kidney grille screams, “I’m here to dominate the road.” Show me another car in the X series that doesn’t turn heads. I’ll wait.
Although the interior of this SUV can make you feel like you’re sitting in a sports coupe, it’s still quite comfortable. However, the view from the rear-view mirror is somewhat limited, which may make you feel a bit claustrophobic. This vehicle is not meant for those who require a lot of cargo space or a large backseat. It’s perfect for those who prioritize the excitement of driving. Note that this vehicle may not be the best option for families with children.
BMW ConnectedDrive
BMW’s X2 is equipped with some interesting technology that stood out for me. Customers can try selected functions for free for a month with BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades. After the trial period, they can add them for a specific duration. The BMW ConnectedDrive Store offers the new BMW Digital Premium option, which allows customers to access all the apps available in their country, such as music streaming, news, or gaming, on a subscription basis. The BMW ConnectedDrive Store also offers additional apps, including music streaming.
The drive
The drive from Pretoria to Krugersdorp was a smooth and enjoyable ride, showcasing the BMW’s impressive engine responsiveness and superior driving experience.
If you’re all about the fun factor and don’t mind sacrificing a bit of interior real estate for it, then the X2 is your wingman. But if you find yourself yearning for a tad more practicality and space, the X1 might be the more suitable sibling for your adventures.
Verdict:
The BMW X2 is like that daring friend who always convinces you to take the scenic route. It may not be the most spacious in its class, but boy, does it know how to turn heads. So, buckle up, embrace the compact charm, and get ready for a ride that’s sure to leave you grinning from ear to ear.
