Tebello Moloi (@lelomoloi on IG), is a lifestyle and travel influencer who loves discovering new cultures and has an even bigger love for great food.
What was your most recent trip and how long were you away for?
New experiences are my Roman Empire (my latest obsession). I travelled to Mozambique with my husband for six days. The trip was purely for pleasure.
What was your favourite part about your holiday?
The cultural differences were exciting to experience, especially the food. Our accommodation was in a luxurious tent in the mountains, overlooking the sea. The views were absolutely exquisite.
Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
The unexpected rainy days could have been avoided with better weather planning from our side.
What touristy things did you get up to and what was the overall experience?
We xplored local restaurants, embarked on a thrilling quad bike ride to the coast, and even ventured into the vibrant local markets. My husband even took the plunge with an exhilarating skydiving experience!
What was the best thing you ate on your trip and what did you splurge on?
I derive pure joy from discovering and trying out new restaurants which turn out to be hidden gems. Seafood holds a special place in my heart and stomach. The trip was a feast for the senses, with massive prawns stealing the show as our culinary favorite. We splurged on delicious food and drinks throughout the trip, while also picking up a few special souvenirs.
Would you advise someone to go and if so, what should they do differently to you?
I highly recommend Mozambique as a travel destination. However, I suggest opting for a road trip in an SUV for a more adventurous experience, rather than flying.
What websites or services did you find the most helpful for planning/booking your trip?
I used bookings.com. to book our accommodation and mostly depended on the hotel recommendations for the activities as well as previous IG reviews
What advice would you give someone going there for the first time?
For first-time visitors, I would advise them to learn some basic Portuguese to enhance communication with locals, double-check accommodation details to avoid surprises, and prioritize using cash by exchanging currency for meticals for a smoother experience.
