KwaZulu Natal is the land of beautiful landscapes, rich history, and breathtaking coastal lines. A very good reason to catch an early morning flight to a launch if you ask me. An hour-long flight to Durban and 15 minutes away from King Shaka International, awaited a luxury experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits.
The Oyster Box Hotel is perfectly located on the Umhlanga beachfront. The family-owned five-star sits on the historic land of what used to be a navigation beacon in 1863. The original structure was a cottage called the Oyster Lodge. It was then sold to a local family who opened a tea garden that morphed into a restaurant and then later reached its full potential as a luxury hotel with loads of charms, thanks to the Tollman family who purchased it in 2007.
Walking into the Oyster Box feels like you are in one of those old Hollywood movies starring Leonardo Dicaprio, and that’s the best way to describe the look and feel. From Bellman taking your luggage in golden Bell carts to the classic contemporary finishes in the entryway. The hotel is known for its great spa sets, an array of taste-tickling cuisine, and its fabulous coastal views.
After a day of driving on the N3, the evening at the Oyster was extra gorgeous as the full moon reflected the dancing waves on the ocean and just sent good vibes to me staring at it from my room. The beautifully put-together room felt like they added personal touches like they knew you were coming. It was breathtaking in all senses of the word. The big suite had a massive bathroom with a shower that puts the one in my apartment to shame and the tub of course for us bath lovers. Every detail was well thought out, from the personalized note welcoming you to the slippers and robe or my personal fave, chocolates on the bed which is what every girl needs! And that is just one of the 86 rooms at the Oyster Box.
Whether your stay is business or personal, you will surely enjoy your stay. There are two swimming pools, tropical gardens, event facilities, and an intimate movie theatre. My favourite was having my morning coffee on their terrace listening to the morning waves. The best thing about this hotel is its art collection with over 100 paintings by 12 South African artists, this in my book wins a couple of awards.
The good people at Chery South Africa’s choice was perfect. We were treated to the famous curry buffet which also lived up to its name. The staff is friendly and helpful always ready to attend to your every need.
At R7893 per night, it is worth every rand for those special occassions. For more info: https://oysterboxhotel.com/
