Vrrr phaa! You couldn’t think of a sound more iconic in South Africa if you tried. This particular Vrrr Phaa is different as it’s more subtle, a bit more elegant…and refined. You turn your head and see the VW golf 8R. An embodiment of beauty, futurism, and power.
As you walk into this jaw-dropping super-hatch you are welcomed by leather seats with a carbon fibre-like pattern, and classic golf R switching on the head of the seat. The dashboard is fully digital, but it can be adjusted to give you a classic “view”.
VW’s infotainment system is simple to use, with HD resolution screens, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging…being in the driver’s seat feels like you’re in the cockpit of a luxury plane.
The new “R” button which lets you toggle between driving modes such as comfort, sport, race, and individual (which lets you custom-pick what type of performance you want from the 8). This button will have the driver feeling like they are in a fast & furious movie about to press “NOS” because the modes outside of comfort will enhance not only performance, it’ll allow the beast to clear its throat as well.
The exterior is simply gorgeous. Sleek alloy rims with lapiz blue “R” brake pads. A stunning line of lighting runs across the face of the car (IQ.LIGHT), in conjunction with a bumper that appears enlarged. The rear end of the car seems to be pushed slightly lower and has sharper edges than the previous generation, coming together to create a bulkier look.
The finishes on this car are almost as sharp as its ability to maneuver through all different types of road conditions using its improved four-wheel drive system. This beast produces 235kW of power and 400Nm of torque. It certainly doesn’t shy away from making its presence felt on the road.
Volkswagen is German for “The people’s car”, the assignment was understood when creating the Golf 8R…The people love this car!
