The Mahindra XUV300 has a very soft spot in my heart. It was the very first car launch I attended at the beginning of my automotive journey back in 2019 in Cape Town. At that time, compact SUVs were taking the industry by storm essentially replacing the sedan. Mahindra also wanted in on the action with this offering. Fast-forward a few years later, they improved their formula. I had the opportunity to compare the two experiences and I can confidently say that Mahindra has stepped up their game. For me, it was a full-circle moment.
Exterior and Interior Design:
The exterior design of the Mahindra XUV300 is bold and contemporary. The new logo has changed to an attractive butterfly that can be spotted from a distance. The SUV features a sleek front grille surrounded by stylish LED daytime running lights, giving it a distinctive and modern appearance. The 17-inch alloy wheels not only enhance the aesthetics but also improve the SUV’s overall road presence.
The XUV300 comes loaded with features, including a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility to provide seamless connectivity. The vehicle also boasts a host of safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and disc brakes on all wheels. Together, these features enhance passenger safety which is a top priority.
Performance:
On the road, I love that the car has a punchy acceleration ensuring great performance and makes it suitable for both urban commuting as well as highway cruising. One of the noticeable improvements since 2019 is the manual transmission which has improved drastically. It adds a touch of engagement for driving enthusiasts, allowing them to fully harness the potential of the engine.
Price and Value for Money:
One of my favourite things about this car has got to be the price. The Mahindra XUV300 with the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine presents excellent value for money in the compact SUV segment. It is priced competitively at R267 999 when considering that it is a whole package. It offers the consumer a combination of a powerful engine with a manual transmission, a well-appointed interior, and an array of features that appeal to budget-conscious buyers who seek a versatile and capable vehicle.
Safety Features:
Safety first – another XUV300 mantra – is not just an afterthought but is taken very seriously. With a host of safety features, it is like having a personal bodyguard on four wheels. Airbags, ABS, EBD – the XUV300 has got you covered, making sure you reach your destination without breaking a sweat (or anything else, for that matter).
While I might have been a novice in 2019, there were some things I did not like with the car. For example, the clutch was difficult and driving the car felt like I was working hard. But with the new improved version, it would definitely be a strong contender if I were in the market for a new car.
