Hello Mabs
I recently bought a used car and every time I hear a different noise, I panic and think something expensive is about to break. How do I know what's normal and what really needs attention?

Mabs Answers:
Firstly, congratulations on your new-to-you car.
I completely understand that feeling. Once we've spent a lot of money on something, we suddenly hear every little squeak and rattle.
The trick is to notice changes rather than obsess over every sound. If a noise appears suddenly, becomes louder, affects how the vehicle drives or is accompanied by a warning light, it's worth having it checked.
If the sound stays the same and the car continues driving normally, make a note of when it happens and mention it at your next service. A trusted workshop can often tell the difference between something that needs urgent attention and something that's simply part of an older vehicle's personality.
Owning a car shouldn't feel like living in constant fear. Knowledge helps replace anxiety with confidence.
