Mpumalanga, known as the place of the rising sun, is considered to be one of the most geographically diverse and unbelievably beautiful places in South Africa. It is a haven for tourists, offering a multitude of activities that cuts across different budgets. The people are incredibly warm and welcoming in this province. Lets just say, that once you venture out to Mpumalanga, you return a different person – calmer and rejuvenated.
With so many offerings across the province, it is not possible to choose a few to recommend. However, we have compiled some of our personal favourite destination and activities in Mpumalanga. These are worth checking out in your next visit.
Kruger National Park
If it is animals you want to see, there is no shortage at the Kruger National Park. World-renowned, the park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world. The official number of species that can be found at the Kruger is truly impressive at 507 birds, 147 mammals, and 114 reptiles. The park has an option of 12 rest camps, with Skukuza being the main one. There are lots of accommodation options from camping to seven-star luxury, there are just as many activities on offer.
Mac Mac Falls
This fall is the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga, and quite spectacular we might add. The Mac Mac Falls have both picnic and braai facilities, and if you catch them on a warm winter’s day (which is not hard to come by in Mpumalanga) you’ll be able to take a dip in the Mac Mac Pools at the end of the walk. This place is absolutely magical. Set aside a few hours to relax and take it all in.

God’s Window
If it is endless spectacular views you seek, make sure that a trip to God’s Window on the Panorama Route is at the top of your list. There is a catch though – you have to walk up an incredible flight of stairs – as if going to heaven. But once you get to the top you are rewarded with the most spectacular views of the province and beyond. The view is so orgasmic that your eye doesn’t quite know where to settle – from the valleys and rolling landscapes at your feet. On a clear day, you can see as far as Mozambique. The experience literally takes your breath away. While you are at it, you might add Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon, and the Three Rondavels.
